DAVID McMILLAN has joined his brother Evan at St Patrick’s Athletic after agreeing a move from UCD.

 

The talented attacker linked up with former Students boss Pete Mahon to become the 14th player to agree to play for the Saints this year.

 McMillan played schoolboy soccer with Templeogue United and had three seasons at Belfield. He was capped by the Republic of Ireland U-23 squad last year.

 The new signing told stpatsfc.com: “For the last two months I had been travelling around Asia through Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and was on holidays when I heard Pat’s were interested in me.

 "My brother Evan had signed and Pete had then enquired about me. Thankfully he was able to make contact and a deal was done pretty quickly.

 "I had played one season under Pete at UCD, as a manager he is totally committed, works extremely hard and expects the same from his players and I’m sure that hasn’t changed. You could see that in how he set up his teams last season – very strong, very hard to play against and I’m delighted now to be a part of all that.

 "I played a bit on the wing last season but up front would be my preferred position so I was delighted to hear Pete say that’s where he wants me to play.

 "Last season I scored 8 or 9 goals but I missed about 12 weeks out with an injury. I scored in both matches at the Belfield Bowl against Pat’s but I don’t have too many happy memories of the other games at Richmond Park.

 "UCD had being doing well up to a point last year and then players started to pick injuries, while we had a strong team we had a thin squad. At UCD I went from playing in the A championship team to playing in the first division and then to the premier and while I’ve enjoyed my time there I really want to push on now and challenge for medals.

 "There is a good squad of players at St Pat’s, competition for places will be tough and it will be a real test for me to try and impress but then you look at the impact a player like David McAllister made at the club last year and how well he did in his first season.

 "It’s definitely more enjoyable having a brother in the same team, you tend to talk with each other after a game about what you did right what you need to work on and I suppose is saves the rest of the family having to choose which game to go to!

 "I’ll be starting back in college again but I enjoyed the holiday - it was a real breakaway. Two weeks ago I was trekking through forests in Cambodia and getting lost so it’s good to be back and facing into a new challenge!"
