Saints and Hoops return to action
South Dublin rivals St. Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers go head-to-head at Richmond Park tonight for a place in the FAI Ford Cup final.

The Hoops and the Saints drew 2-2 in Tallaght last Sunday forcing a replay of the match. With Sligo Rovers already have booked their place in the Aviva Stadium on November 14th, St. Pat’s and Rovers will tonight look to secure their place in the first ever FAI Ford Cup final to be held at the new home of Irish football.

Rovers twice led on Sunday and were just minutes from victory until a Paddy Kavanagh own goal in the 90th minute drew the Saints level.

St. Pat’s manager Pete Mahon says that as the home side there is now more pressure on the Saints to get a positive result tonight.

“I thought Friday night’s semi-final (between Bohemians & Sligo Rovers) was a hard act to follow but whereas that game was a bit one sided our game against Rovers was more evenly balanced,” he said.

“As the home side there will now be a bit more expectation and pressure on ourselves. I thought yesterday we played well especially after the first half hour and if we can play as we did in the second half then we’ve every chance of making it through.”

Damien Lynch returns to the Saints squad following his one match suspension, although there are doubts over midfielders Dave Mulcahy and David McAllister, both of whom picked-up knocks in Sunday’s match.

The Hoops have injury concerns of their own, with doubts over the availability of Stephen Rice (knee), James Chambers (ankle), Tommy Stewart (ankle), Chris Turner (knee) and Pat Flynn (hamstring).

Dan Murray, Sean O’Connor and Pat Sullivan (all knee) all remain sidelined, although Danny Murphy and Craig Sives return from the suspension list.

“We’re disappointed that the tie has gone to a replay, as we felt we should have won it,” said Hoops boss Michael O’Neill. “But that also gives me great faith in the lads; I know they can get the win on Tuesday night.

“We also have a good record at Richmond Park; we won the two games we played there this season. It will be a tough game, but we will be going there confident that we can get the win.”
