| Saints and Sligo meet in Setanta Sports Cup semi-final |
|
The first of this season’s Setanta Sports Cup semi-finals takes place at Richmond Park tonight, when St. Patrick’s Athletic host Sligo Rovers (kick-off 7.45pm). With both sides unbeaten in their opening four Airtricity League matches, the match sees two on-form teams go head-to-head. Both the Saints and the Bit O’Red are looking to progress to the Setanta Sports Cup final for the first time. St. Pat’s are hoping that a special price of €10 per adult ticket will lead to a big crowd supporting them as they look to record a good result ahead of the second leg at The Showgrounds. ![]() Damien Lynch returns to action for the Saints, having missed Friday night’s entertaining draw with Dundalk. However, the home side will be without Brian Cash, who is cup tied having featured for Sligo Rovers earlier in the campaign. “We’ve had a good start to the season,” said St. Pat’s manager Pete Mahon. “The players are giving 100% ever week, it’s great to win a game and not concede a goal. “They [Sligo] have a good team and a good manager. They beat us comprehensively 2-0 at the end of last season and though the season did not end too well for them last year but they’ve added some quality players to their squad since then. It’s over two legs and we can expect two toughs game but we’re hoping that we can build some sort of platform on Monday night to bring with us to the Showgrounds –we don’t want to be going there in a deficit situation.” Sligo Rovers travel to Dublin without Paul Whelan, who is still struggling with a leg injury, but are otherwise at full strength. The tie is the Bit o’ Red’s third major semi-final in the last 12 months having reached the last four of the EA Sports Cup and the final of the FAI Cup in 2009. |
