Saints book quarter final spot

St. Patrick's Athletic booked their place in the FAI Ford Cup quarter final after an extra time victory over Monaghan United at Richmond Park.

Bobby Ryan struck after 105 minutes to break the deadlock and set up a quarter final meeting with Waterford United at the RSC this Saturday evening.

The home side put on the early pressure, with Mark Quigley and Ryan Guy almost edging out chances for the Saints. Cathal O'Connor looked lively for the visitors, however, and forced an early save out of Gary Rogers in the Saints goal. .

Jeff Kenna's side appealed for a penalty as normal time drew to a close when Enda Stevens appeared to have been taken down in the penalty area. However, their appeals were waved away.

And they suffered a shock at the other end when Alan Byrne's effort from Karl Bermingham's cross was well blocked by Rogers with only four minutes left on the clock.

The match moved into extra time, with Bobby Ryan controlled Damien Lynch's cross and fired into the net from eight yards.
