| Super Saints march on in Europe |
|
St Patrick's Athletic booked their place in the next round of qualifiers in the Europa League after beating Krylya Sovetov on away goals. Â Despite taking a one goal advantage into the second leg in Samara, the Dublin club knew that they were in for a tough game on Thursday afternoon against a well-drilled Russian team. Â The hosts took the lead through Anton Bober and looked set to take control of the tie when striker Evgeni Savin scored twice to put Sovetov in front with a scoreline of 3-1. Â However, they could do little to stop the comeback that the Saints mounted in the last 20 minutes as Jeff Kenna's men piled forward in search of the goals that would keep them involved in European competition. Â Stuart Byrne will be claiming the first goal that the Inchicore outfit scored, but it appeared that Bober got the last touch - not that the St Pat's team really cared about who got the goal as long as it went in. Â There was no disputing the next strike though as Declan 'Fabio' O'Brien kept up his fantastic record by scoring in every European game since joining the club when he smashed in his effort on 79 minutes. Â Kenna will be delighted for his players to come out with the 3-3 draw and will surely point to last week's superb display in Richmond Park as to where the tie was really won. Â It is a huge win for the club and for the League of Ireland, and they will be eager to find out who their next opponents will be when the draw for the final qualifying round is made on Friday. |
