| O'Grady ready to lead |
|
Conor O'Grady will lead Sligo Rovers into European competition for the first time in a decade this evening when they host FK Vllaznia Shkoder of Albania at The Showgrounds (kick-off 7pm). ![]() The Bit O'Red captain says that the Sligo players are all determined to get a result that would give them a good chance of progressing to the Second Round of the Europa League, where they would face Austrian giants Rapid Vienna. "Everyone is looking forward to the game," he said. "There is a great buzz around the town. Personally, I'm looking forward to getting the game on, the wait is the worst part. "I think we have a 50:50 chance. They will be favourites because they have more experience of European football over the last few years. They have a few internationals on their team too. "But you never know on the day. We have really talented lads and if we play to our full potential, you never know." O'Grady is looking forward to a capacity crowd at The Showgrounds for the return of European football to the north-west. Although the capacity of the stadium is restricted under UEFA rules, O'Grady hopes the noise generated by the Sligo fans can help to spur the team on. "UEFA rules have restricted the capacity to 2,700 but if we can get them right behind us, they can be the 12th man and drive us on," he said. "Hopefully, they can be a great help to us winning the game." |
