Bit O' Red elect new committee

At a meeting of the Sligo Rovers committee of management last week, a new board was elected to manage the affairs of the club for the coming year.

A number of well known and respected individuals from the Sligo area and beyond have been recruited to assist in building on the foundations of the last year. A new management structure has been introduced at committee level, including the appointment of Vincent Nally as 'financial controller'.

These changes reflect the club's determination to tackle the difficulties faced in a professional manner and are a response to the economic circumstances of today.

The safe-guarding of the club will require hard work and commitment by those within and outside the Management Committee(MC). Without the support and good will of the people of Sligo and the North-West region, the MC can do little to promote and develop the game in the area.

To the end, we are calling on all those in a position to do so, to please support the 'Johnny Chadda Fund'. Launched in memory of one of the town's most loyal and love sons, the fund is limited to 75 members and seeks donations of €100 a month for the support of Sligo Rovers. These 'patrons' of the club will be entitled to free admission to all home league matches, lotto membership and will be acknowledged in all home match programmes.

Full accountability and financial reports on the use of this funding is guaranteed. We realise the generous nature of such a contribution but as we seek to move the whole club forward, this call is necessary to secure some ongoing funding for what is a community based venture.

Anyone who is interested in subscribing should contact the club Treasurer Fergal Keaveney on 0878136767.

Dermot Kelly has been confirmed as the new chairman of Sligo Rovers after a meeting of the committee of management on Thursday night.

The officers of the club for the coming season are:

Chairman: Dermot Kelly
Vice-Chairman: Tony Quinn
Financial Controller: Vincent Nally
Secretary: Mary McGowan
Assistant Secretary: Mark Cummins
Treasurer:  Fergal Keaveney
Licensing Officer: Ray Gallagher

Committee: Michael Toolan, Jack Carney, Fergal Davey, Paddy Houze, Geoffrey Rainey, Graham Monaghan, Michael Mooney, Frank Brannigan, Kevin Lydon
