North moves to North West

SLIGO ROVERS have announced that the FAI Ford Cup holders have agreed a deal to bring St Patrick's Athletic striker Danny North to the club.

North has agreed terms with Sligo Rovers to become the first new capture for the Bit o' Red for the 2012 season.

The former St Patrick's Athletic striker makes the move to the Showgrounds after an impressive campaign with the Saints this year.

North said: "I'm delighted to get the deal sorted and join the club. I've been in the league for 18 months so obviously I know all about Sligo. Everyone knows the type of football they play and it's my job to get into the team now and do well.

"I like to think I will fit in well with Sligo. Paul Cook called me basically as soon as the season was over so I knew he was keen and that was a big factor. It was not an easy decision to leave St Pat's as I enjoyed my time there but I didn't want to wait.

"Every player wants to improve and I'll try to score as many as I can but I just want to do well with the team. The club has won three trophies in two years and I want to try and continue that."

Gavin Peers and Alan Keane agreed to extend their spells with the club yesterday.

North, Peers, Keane, Mark McGoldrick and Daryl Horgan have now committed to Rovers for 2012.

Keane said: "I'm delighted to continue my time with Rovers. I love it here and I have ambitions to win more trophies and improve. There were a few small things to sort out and this time of year brings a lot of uncertainty so it is great to come to the agreement.

"I moved down to Sligo and settled in very well. It is a great football town and the fans love the club and want to see it do well. I'm already looking forward to next season. We want to go one better in the league and retain the FAI Cup again and that is the challenge in front of us."
