McGuinness heads out west

Jason McGuinness has agreed a move to Sligo Rovers for the 2011 season.

Dubliner McGuinness joins the Bit O’Red after starring for Bohemians in their title winning sides of 2008 & 2009.

Sligorovers.com confirmed that the 28-year-old will replace Jim Lauchlan, who has left the club.

Rovers boss Paul Cook believes the centre-back will prove an important addition to the side which won the FAI Ford Cup and EA Sports Cup last year

“He is a very experienced player. He’s won league title and he brings height to the team which is important," said Cook.

“When you see we’ve signed John Russell and Jason McGuinness in the space of 24 hours it gives our fans a bit of excitement as we approach the new season.

“We’re bringing quality players to the club and that’ll continue in the coming days or weeks.â€

Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers will hold an open forum on Sunday, February 6 in the Clarion Hotel in Sligo to lay out plans for the 2011 season.

The proceedings will begin at 2:30pm with a meeting of the club’s volunteers. All those who help out the club with voluntary service are encourages to attend. It will conclude at 3:30pm.

At 4pm a forum for the supporters, press and sponsors will be held. Statements will be made by the key stakeholders of the club including chairman Dermot Kelly, general manager Packie Lynch and first-team manager Paul Cook and questions will be taken from the floor.
