| Supporters hail Twigg's impact |
Shamrock Rovers striker Gary Twigg has settled into life in the League of Ireland by scoring eight goals in the opening 10 Premier Division matches – and supporters across the league have recognised his contribution by voting him as the new signing that has had the biggest impact this season. ![]() Twigg has been in sensational form since joining the Hoops and his goals have helped the club get off to a good start in their new home in Tallaght. In a poll on the official League of Ireland website, www.loi.ie, supporters rewarded the Scottish striker by voting him as the new signing that has had the biggest impact. With a total of 353 supporters taking part in the poll, the 25-year-old claimed 53% of the poll to claim top spot. Bohemians’ midfielder Joseph Ndo claimed second place, with Chris Turner of Dundalk coming in third. Twigg told loi.ie that he was delighted with his form, which he says has been helped greatly by the management skills of Hoops boss Michael O’Neill, who brought Twigg to Rovers having previously worked with him at Brechin City: “It’s been great, I am really enjoying myself and I have settled down well. I think Dublin is quite a similar city to Glasgow so that has helped, as has the fact that I knew the manager and a few of the players before I cam over. I have been working with Michael for one year now and he has been a massive help to me. Michael really looks after his players, not just in terms of their football but also outside of the game. His man management is brilliant.” Rovers defeated St. Patrick’s Athletic 1-0 on Monday afternoon to book their place in the draw for the Quarter Finals of the EA SPORTS Cup. The draw for the Quarter Finals will take place on Wednesday, May 6th, and Twigg is hopeful that the club can go all the way in the competition: “We got a good win against St. Pat’s and that has put us into the Quarter Finals. As a player, you want to win every competition you go into and we have a good chance of bringing some silverware to the club. We’re really looking forward to the next round now. It’s not going to be easy, regardless of who we get in the Quarter Finals. I have been very impressed by the quality of play in the league. There are some very, very good teams and some really good players. We face Sligo this Saturday and that will be another tough match. I have talked to some of the lads about Sligo and they have all said that the Showgrounds is a very hard place to get a result, but it is important that we go there looking for three points, especially given the disappointment of last Friday against Bray.” Which new signing has impressed most?
