Hoops ready to tackle Copenhagen

SHAMROCK ROVERS will look to prove they can live with Champions League standard opposition tomorrow when they meet Danish stars FC Copenhagen at the Parken Stadion.

The Airtricity League champions will be rank outsiders against the Danes in this UEFA Champions League Third Qualifying Round first leg but the Hoops travel to Copenhagen confident they can trouble their Scandanavian opponents.

FC Copenhagen were beaten in the last 16 of the competition by Chelsea earlier this year and will be red hot favourites against Michael O'Neill's side.

But the Hoops will look to ensure they produce a result that keeps the tie alive for the second leg in Tallaght next week.

O'Neill has to operate with the injured Karl Sheppard (ankle) and suspended Chris Turner while Stephen O'Donnell will face a late fitness test.

The Rovers boss said: "Preparation has been going well and we're all looking forward to the game.

"We know it will be a big challenge for us facing Copenhagen, but we are ready to face it."
