O'Neill looking forward to 'cracking cup tie'
Shamrock Rovers and St. Patrick’s Athletic will compete for a place in the FAI Ford Cup final when they meet at Tallaght Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A place at Aviva Stadium to face Sligo Rovers in the FAI Ford Cup final awaits the winners, with both the Hoops and the Saints desperate to end their long waits for success in this competition.

The Hoops will be without Danny Murphy and Craig Sives (both suspended), while there are doubts over Pat Flynn (ankle) and Gary Twigg (illness). Pat Sullivan, Dan Murray and Sean O’Connor (all knee injuries), remain out.

“This is a big opportunity for the team,” said Hoops boss Michael O’Neill. “It would be great to give the fans a big day out, they deserve it. And there is also the added attraction in that it is the first Cup Final in the Aviva Stadium.

“But all those incentives also apply to St Pat’s; they are also looking to make their own history, as they haven’t won the Cup in almost 50 years.

“All those factors, and the added spice of it being a derby game, mean this game has the makings of being a cracking cup tie.”
