Michael O'Neill was unveiled as manager of Shamrock Rovers in December 2008. He joined the Hoops on a 3-year full-time contract and took over affairs at Rovers on the eve of the club's move to the Tallaght Stadium.

During an impressive playing career, O'Neill was capped by Northern Ireland 33 times, scoring 7 goals for his country.

His first step into management came when he was made assistant manager at Cowdenbeath, before taking over the manager's seat at Brechin City. He earned rave reviews for his performance with the Scottish Second Division outfit and, following the departure of Pat Scully, moved back to Ireland to take over at Shamrock Rovers.
