Hoops progress to EA SPORTS semis
Shamrock Rovers progressed to the semi finals of the EA SPORTS Cup at the expense of Derry City at the Brandywell Stadium.

Goals from Gary Twigg and Dessie Baker gave the Hoops a 2-0 lead, before a late Mark Farren strike reduced the defecit.

A youthful Derry side held the tie scoreless until the half-time break. However, just four minutes into the second half Gary Twigg struck, finishing after Sean O'Connor had crossed into the box.

The home side had an appeal for a penalty on 52 minutes after Mark Farren claimed to have been taken down by Alan Mannus. However, the referee waved play on.

And just five minutes later Dessie Baker doubled the Hoops' advantage.

Derry City pushed bodies forward in a bid to get back into the game. While Mark Farren did score with five minutes remaining, it was too little too late as the Candystripes crashed out.
