| Ireland Futsal Squad Announced |
|
Republic of Ireland Futsal Manager, Derek O'Neill has named a provisional squad of 16 players for the forthcoming UEFA Futsal Championship preliminary tournament which takes place in Tallaght, Dublin. This tournament, which is the first of its kind to be hosted in Ireland, will run from 19-22 February. The squad will be reduced to 14 players prior to the opening game against Cyprus on Thursday 19th February at 8pm. The Boys in Green will then take on England on Friday 20th February at 8pm before completing their programme with a game against group favourites, Kazakhstan on Sunday 22nd February at 6pm. This will be Ireland's first appearance in the senior UEFA Futsal Championships qualifiers. Manager Derek O'Neill said, "It promises to be an interesting few days of Futsal here in Dublin. Cyprus will prove tough opponents as will the experienced Kazakhstan team whose top club side, Kairat Almaty is currently in the last four of the UEFA Futsal Cup (Club Champions competition). However, I'm sure it's the match V England which will capture the attention of Irish supporters. He added, "Whatever the results, I'm sure supporters will be pleasantly surprised at the speed and skill level of the players and the intensity of the games in this competition. It's a great opportunity to showcase Futsal to the Irish football public and hopefully with their support, we can give a very good account of ourselves."
