Barrett signs for Rovers

Shamrock Rovers' title challenge has been bolstered by the signing of Ireland international striker Graham Barrett.

The 27-year-old Tallaght native joins the Hoops with immediate effect. Barrett has seven Ireland caps to his name and will bring a wealth of experience to the Rovers squad.

Barrett will be looking to link-up with Gary Twigg, the Scottish striker who is currently leading the League of Ireland Premier Division goalscoring charts having netted 17 league goals so far this season.

Barrett's former clubs include Arsenal, Coventry City and Falkirk. He is the second full international player to sign for Rovers this summer, following the arrival of Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Alan Mannus.

"We’re delighted to have signed a player of Graham’s ability,” says Shamrock Rovers’ manager, Michael O’Neill. “He’ll be another fine addition to our squad.

“His arrival also means that there’s going to be an even greater level of competition for places in our starting eleven, which can only be good for everyone at the club.”

Dubliner Barrett is from Tallaght, and sees his arrival at Rovers as a very positive step in his career. “It’s an exciting time at the club and I hope to play my part,” he says.

“There’s something special about Shamrock Rovers playing at Tallaght Stadium. It’s great for the area and as a local I can’t wait to wear the green and white  Hoops.”

Subject to receiving an International Transfer Clearance certificate, Barrett will be drafted into the Hoops’ squad for the game tomorrow (Friday) against Galway United.
