| Monaghan make no mistake |
|
Barry Clancy scored twice to ease Monaghan into the fourth round as non-league Cherry Orchard finished with ten men. Having thrown away a 2-0 lead at Red Cow on Sunday, Monaghan made no mistake as they effectively ended the game as a contest inside 22 minutes. A flowing move involving Clancy and David freeman set-up Sean Brennan to shoot Monaghan in front after three minutes. Cathal O’Connor doubled that lead on 16 minutes with a fine shot from outside the box to beat Robert Hughes. The game was all but over six minutes later when Monaghan went further in front. Paul Whelan crossed from the right and Clancy scored with a header. Clancy then added his second four minutes before half-time. Orchard had defender Gary Sullivan sent off on 53 minutes for a second booking. |
