| Monaghan add young talent to the squad |
|
Manager Mick Cooke has welcomed the addition of some of Monaghan United’s up and coming talent to his squad for 2010. Darren Coleman and James Clarke made the bench last year and are welcomed back for the new season where they are joined by Conor Moynagh who will be hoping to make his squad debut. Coleman, Clarke and Moynagh have come through the Academy at Mons and have all played for the club in the All Ireland Under 17’s Semi Final last year. Coleman has played for the Dundalk Schoolboy League team at the Kennedy Cup and for Monaghan United at Under 18 & Under 20 levels at a young age and Cooke has great expectations of him for the future. Clarke, an All Ireland medal holder for Athletics, has unrivalled pace and stamina on the pitch and this, added to his skill, makes him a very exciting prospect. Clarke has also played for United at U18 & U20 level including playing in the Foyle Cup. Moynagh from County Cavan, has been a constant in the under age teams in recent times and has also played in the Foyle Cup and in the Ulster Schools competition. At 16 years of age he is one of the youngest players on Mick’s panel but also appears to have a very bright future in the game. “The way Monaghan United are producing such quality young players like Coleman, Clarke and Moynagh is really exciting for the future of football in the area," said manager Mick Cooke. "These 3 lads join their Under 20’s and 18’s team mates Dean McMahon, Philip Donnelly and Niall Flynn in the squad giving me a wealth of young lads to work with and hopefully help them make the step up to senior football with ease. One of the things I love most about working with Monaghan United is the abundance of talent that is there and the fact that 6 of my 2010 squad have broken through from their youth set up in the past year is testament to the hard work, quality of coaching and the will to bring players through that exists at the club. Like United Juvenile players before them such as Aaron McCarey (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Mark Connolly (Bolton Wanderers) and Jonathon Douglas (Swindon Town), these lads are being given the chance to go on to bigger and better things by stepping up into the shop window that is League of Ireland football. They are also following in the footsteps of Paul Sheils (Shelbourne) and Paul Whelan in becoming Professional Footballers in the Irish game. The future is bright at Monaghan United FC and I am proud to be part of the process that will nurture players and help them follow their dreams” |
