| Daly confident win can kick-start campaign |
|
Michael Daly is hoping that Dundalk's 1-0 victory over Galway United last weekend can kick-start the Lilywhites' season. A goal from Declan O'Brien was enough to give Dundalk three points at Oriel Park last Friday in a match that was of crucial importance to the club given their heavy defeat to Bohemians seven days earlier. ![]() Daly says that the players wanted to react to that defeat and felt that beating Galway showed what they are capable of. “I’m obviously delighted,” said Daly. “The Gaffer has been keeping the spirits up and I think we have enough experience in the squad here to do that. There are so many teams at the minute that are close together, and whoever digs the results out the best is going to be at the top of it. We have to have a base at the back and the defence were very good tonight. If we keep clean sheets, we’ll win games. “We felt in the first ten games that we didn’t get the rub of the green, but maybe we have to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and say who cares about the rub of the green, let’s just get our results. We have five games coming up and why can’t we win all five? I don’t see why we can’t. No-mistake football, that’s what we have to play at the moment, because we've got the strikers, we have good lads in midfield and we have a solid defence as well. We can do it. If we can get a couple of results we’ll get more belief too, which I think you need - to be a good footballer you need belief.” Goalkeeper Chris Bennion was also confident that Dundalk can now start putting a good run of form together. “A win is a win,” Bennion said, “and hopefully it’s a platform for us to kick on over the next few weeks. We have to make this place like a fortress. It was comfortable enough tonight, I was just happy enough to get my kicking back to normal after last week. It was a good performance but the win was the most important thing. Last week was soul destroying. It has affected us all week in training, the lads have been a bit down. It’s about getting a run together now, because we’ve been winning one and losing one, so hopefully we can kick on after this.” |
