O'Callaghan set for league return

George O'Callaghan is set for a dramatic return to League of Ireland football after signing a deal with Dundalk.

The Lilywhites have confirmed the signing of O'Callaghan, who is a former League of Ireland Player of the Year and is best known for his displays for Cork City.

The attacking midfielder spent much of last season at Tranmere Rovers but joins Dundalk as the Lilywhites prepare for their first season back in the top flight.

Manager Sean Connor has made a number of high profile signings, including Declan O'Brien, Darren Mansaram, Michael Collins and Chris Turner.

Connor said that O'Callaghan's signing said a lot about the ambition of the football club.

"I am delighted to be bringing George O'Callaghan to this football club," he said. "He is one of the top players in the league and his arrival should send out a message to our supporters about the ambitions this club has. We worked very hard over the past week to bring George to Oriel Park and I hope that Dundalk fans will see the benefit of that hard work in the season ahead".

The other deadline day signing is 19 year old Michael McKerr who has signed on loan from Birmingham City. McKerr is from Lurgan and is an U-19 and U-20 Northern Ireland international and has been signed to strengthen the club's defensive line.
