Ex-Dundalk boss Gannon takes over at Port Vale

FORMER Dundalk boss Jim Gannon has been appointed as the new manager of English League Two club Port Vale FC.

Dubliner Gannon, who played for Shelbourne and Dundalk, was previously manager of Stockport County, Peterborough United and Motherwell.

Gannon managed the Lilywhites in 2004 and 2005. He won a league winners medal as a player with Shelbourne in 2002.

The 42-year-old has signed an 18-month contract with the Vale Park outfit. He led his former club Stockport County to promotion to League One via the play-offs in 2008.

"I'm delighted to have this opportunity to manage a club which I believe has the foundations and the fan-base to perform in the higher divisions," said Gannon.
