| Dundalk claim last four place |
|
There will be no repeat of last season's EA SPORTS Cup final appearance for Waterford United after the Blues were knocked out of the competition by Dundalk in this year's quarter final stages. Waterford took the lead in the match on 33 minutes. Peter Cherrie did well to save from Liam Kearney but the ball fell kindly to Willie John Kiely, who slotted home from inside the box. Despite good pressure from the home side, the visitors got back into the game on the stroke of half-time. Wayne Hatswell headed the ball into the penalty area and Stephen Maher was on hand to drill the ball home. The winning goal came on 66 minutes - Kudozovic's shot was blocked by Paul Carey, but the ball cruelly looped into the net. The home side pushed for an equaliser but Dundalk defended well to book their place in the EA SPORTS Cup semi finals.
