| Mulvenna to stay at Oriel |
|
Tiarnán Mulvenna today became Ian Foster's fourth signing ahead of the new season when the 21-year-old striker penned a one-year contract which will see him remain in the first-team setup at Oriel Park for a fifth consecutive campaign. Mulvenna, who was first brought into the senior ranks by John Gill at the beginning of 2006, made his debut for his hometown club in May 2007, scoring his first goal four months later at home to Kilkenny City. He has progressed steadily since then and figured in 29 league games last term, the highest number of appearances in the squad before being curtailed by injury over the final five weeks of the season. And the 5ft5 front man, voted the club's 'Local Player of the Year' in 2009, expressed his delight at the deal when speaking to dundalkfc.com shortly after signing. "I am delighted to be able to agree a deal for next season," he said. "Dundalk FC is where my football heart lies, and I am really looking forward to working with Ian Foster. I am very determined to nail down a regular starting place as a striker next season." Foster, a forward himself in his playing days, is also happy to have secured the youngster's services, with Mulvenna joining Peter Cherrie, Alan Cawley and Wayne Hatswell at Oriel Park, as the former Galway United boss continues to piece his squad together for pre-season, which is due to begin on 25 January. "Tiarnán is a player who has made a significant impact since coming in as a teenager," he said. "Now is the time for Tiarnán to show the very best of his ability, and I look forward to working with him and trying to help him reach his undoubted potential." |
