Drogs confident ahead of trip west
Thursday, 04 June 2009 12:17

Drogheda United manager Alan Mathews says that his players will travel to Terryland Park full of confidence after their recent performances.

Mathews has a full squad to chose from ahead of Friday night’s visit to Terryland Park to face Galway United. Goalkeeper Steve Williams (knee) and striker Robbie Martin (knee) received slight knocks during Tuesday’s magnificent defeat of Cork City, but Mathews is hopeful that both players should be fit for Friday’s match.

Although Drogheda currently prop-up the rest of the Premier Division table, with two wins and two draws in their last five matches the Drogs are one of the division’s on-form teams. Mathews is hoping that this form can continue against Galway:

“We have the same squad for this match as we did for Tuesday’s game against Cork,” he said. “We’ll have a look at Steve [Williams] and Robbie [Martin] but both players should be OK to play.

“We fully deserved to beat Cork on Tuesday night. We took t the lead, they drew level and then we pushed up and got the winner. We played really well and we fully deserved the three points.

“We’re just looking ahead to the next game. Galway will provide tough opposition but we are confident going into the match. The players are working very hard and have performed very well over recent weeks. We were very unlucky to lose to Bohemians, we fully deserved our draw against Rovers, and we deserved to beat Cork.”
