Drogs look for maximum points from two fixtures
Friday, 17 April 2009 11:01

Drogheda United manager Alan Mathews has set his players a task of taking six points from their next two matches, starting with Friday night's visit to Richmond Park to face St. Patrick's Athletic.

The Drogs recorded their first win of the season when they defeated Bray Wanderers in the EA SPORTS Cup midweek. However, they are still chasing their first league win of the new campaign, something that Mathews wants to achieve at Richmond Park.

“I didn’t set myself any points target at the beginning of the season," he said. "Whether we were top, in the middle, or at the bottom of the table we wanted to be in touch of the teams around us. Unfortunately we find ourselves five points adrift at the bottom, but we’re looking to get maximum points against both St Pats and Sligo in our next two games, although it will be a tall order to do so, but we’re a confident team with a fantastic work ethic.

“Robbie Farrell and John Paul Kelly had scans on the injuries they sustained in the warm-up to the Galway United game last Friday, and are awaiting the results of them, so they’re definitely out, as well as Shane Barrett and Robbie Martin. Alan McNally might be fit. Like against Galway we go into Friday night’s game with no recognised striker. We had two players aged 16 and 17 playing against Bray on Monday in Eoghan Osbounre and William Woods, who did very well and they’re both in Friday night’s squad."
