DROGHEDA UNITED have announced details of a special reunion of Jack Charlton's Italia 90 heroes in aid of a local charity on July 2. The stars of Jack Charlton’s Green Army are set to reunite on the first weekend in July to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Italia 90 and allow Irish soccer fans to relive the magic of those heady days. John Aldridge, Ronnie Whelan, Paul McGrath, Packie Bonner, Tony Cascarino and many more will pit their wits against a League of Ireland managers team at Hunky Dorys Park, Drogheda, on Saturday July 2 (15:00). The match is being run for the benefit of ABACAS school for children with autism & Drogheda United FC. The stars will also be feted at a celebratory Texas Hold'em poker tournament featuring Tony Cascarino and Ken Doherty in the City North Hotel Gormanston and at a post-match celebratory 21st birthday party dinner. Republic of Ireland legend Paul McGrath cannot wait to see his old team-mates, and is looking forward to once more hearing the roars of the Irish fans from the terraces. “Italia 90 was such an amazing time for both the country and the squad,” said McGrath. “I’m really looking forward to reliving some of the great memories of what was without doubt one of this country’s finest hours. “I would encourage people to come along to the game, create a great atmosphere and enjoy everything that’s going on over the weekend. “I’m delighted to be involved in such a wonderful event and to lend my support to ABACAS & Drogheda United in their efforts to raise much needed funds for two great organisations in the Louth area.” The match is the perfect opportunity for the footballing public to say thanks for the memories, and for parents to introduce their children to the legends that brought Irish soccer on to the world stage. The weekend is sure to prove a huge draw for Irish fans all over the country, and supporters are advised to purchase their tickets in advance. Special family tickets are available for the match, and can be purchased from www.italia90drogheda.com. Tickets are also available from Drogheda United (041 9830190) and at selected outlets in Drogheda. Details of all the weekend's events are available on www.italia90drogheda.com and www.italia90poker.com. Supplementary Information Drogheda ABACAS School for Children with Autism was set up by four parents from Louth in March 2003 to help children and young people with Autism realise their full potential. |
