Mathews ready for tough opening night
Alan Mathews believes his Drogs team will face a baptism of fire when they travel to the Brandywell Stadium for their opening fixture of the 2009 season.

Mathews has assembled a new squad of players and believes his team have a tough opening to the new campaign. However, the ex-Cork City manager says that he is looking forward to getting the new campaign underway.

"You have to play everyone over the course of the season so you can’t pick and chose who you get in the opening matches," he said. "Going to the Brandywell will be tough. Derry have made a couple of good signings and they are always a tough side to play.

"We have brought in a few new players and we’ll be looking to bring in some more before the season starts. I have been happy enough with how preparations have gone, especially since we are starting from scratch in terms of bringing a new squad in.”
