| Candystripes throw title race wide open |
Stephen Kenny believes that Derry City's 3-2 victory over Bohemians on Friday night has thrown the title race wide open. ![]() The Candystripes inflicted the first defeat on the road for Bohs since Pat Fenlon took charge at the Gypsies. Kenny says that the result shows how open the Premier Division is this season. "Bohs are a very good side, but I think some teams are already beaten by them before they play them," he said. "There are a lot of good players at all of the teams, and I think we are all capable of beating each other. "Bohs are a fantastic team and have signed the two players of the year in the past two seasons in [Brian] Shelley and [Joseph] Ndo, so they've added to their squad while we have lost the players who were most influential for us last season, cutting edge players. "But our players have rallied around and showed tremendous spirit. Bohs conceded more goals in this game than they had in the previous ten matches. Three goals in twenty minutes for us shows that our finishing has to be good." Derry City's title charge can take another massive step forward this Friday night when they travel to Turner's Cross to face Cork City. The Leesiders are level on points with Bohs at the top of the table, but a win for Stephen Kenny's side would see them move into top spot for at least 24 hours, with Bohs not due to face Shamrock Rovers until Saturday evening. |
