| Tale of two cities sees top spot up for grabs |
|
Cork City face Derry City at Turner's Cross with the winner set to claim top spot in the Premier Division. ![]() The Rebel Army are currently level with Bohemians on 23 points, with Derry City two points behind, but with the Gypsies not in action until Saturday night, the winner of this fixture will rise to the summit. A fascinating night on Leeside will see two on-form sides meet having both recorded excellent wins last weekend, Cork City defeating St. Patrick's Athletic and Derry City taking three points away from their match against Bohemians. Cork City defender Greg O'Halloran knows the importance of the fixture and hopes that a large crowd can help push the home side to victory. “It was a very good performance against St. Pat’s," reflected O'Halloran. "I think we passed the ball excellently and our movement was very good as well. We went up to Pat’s full of confidence that we could win and it was fantastic to score three goals as well. The game against Derry is a massive game for us now, so hopefully Turner’s Cross will be packed out and we can get another good result.” Derry City scored two late goals to claim victory over Cork City when the sides met at the Brandwell Stadium earlier this season and manager Paul Doolin is anxious to get revenge. “Derry got the win when we met at the Brandywell earlier in the season, but as I said at the time I do believe we deserved something out of that game," said Doolin. "We have managed to recover from that defeat and are now ahead of them in the table. "It will be a tough game for us, but we are looking forward to it and hopefully we will get a big crowd out to support us. It is important that we concentrate on our own game and that we continue to do the right things as we have been doing in recent weeks. Fortunately we have put ourselves in the position that a win would put us top of the table, continuing our good form and getting the three points is what will motivate us.” |
