| Rebels out for revenge |
|
Cork City travel to Richmond Park on Saturday night to face St. Patrick's Athletic and the Rebel Army are out to avenge their defeat at the hands of the Saints earlier this season. ![]() St. Pat's overcame Cork City 1-0 at Turner's Cross earlier in the campaign and manager Paul Doolin will be eager to avenge that result. “Pats beat us 1-0 at Turner’s Cross earlier in the season, but I think we played quite well in that game and deserved to get at least a draw out of it," said Doolin. "I don’t like to talk about the opposition, because I would rather concentrate on our own team, but I do know that Pats will be tough opponents for us on Saturday. They may not have started as well as they would have hoped, so they will certainly be looking for a win, as we will also. "We may not have scored a lot of goals, but I would rather not score many goals and win, than not score many goals and lose. Scoring goals is something we can work on, because we have created chances, so we just need to start converting more of them. It is important that we have everyone who is available firing on all cylinders at the moment to try and maintain our form and our position.” Doolin has seen his selection options severely restricted because of injuries, and he said that he will be without several players for Saturday’s games. “Shane Duggan went over on his ankle in the Wexford game, and that was confirmed as a broken ankle yesterday, so he is likely to be out for the next three months," said Doolin. "Stephen O’Donnell returned to training yesterday, but is obviously still limited as to what he can do. He’s ahead of schedule and is doing very well, but he is still several weeks away from a return. "Billy Dennehy won’t be available this week. We are hoping he will only be out for a week or two, but again, we don’t want to rush him back. Robert Mezeckis has also returned to training this week, but he will not be available for selection until next week at the earliest. Neal Horgan is still in the early stages of recovery from his injury, and it looks like he will be another four weeks or so, while Davin O’Neill did the warm up on Monday but he is just returning to training after an ankle injury. "We’re working off a very small squad right now. A lot of clubs are in the same position, so it is up to us to get on with it and try to keep our run going on Saturday. You can use injuries as an excuse, but I’m not interested in doing that, we are focused on going to Richmond Park to try and get a result.” |
