Doolin hoping for Rebel roar

Paul Doolin leads his Cork City team into Turner's Cross for the first time hoping that a huge crowd can roar his team on.

The Rebel Army secured a credible 1-1 draw away to Sligo Rovers last week, and they will look to go one better when they meet a St. Patrick's Athletic team looking to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat to Galway United last week.

“As a first game Sligo was a tricky fixture for us as they are a decent team and conditions were far from ideal, but I think when you are leading with two minutes to go, you have to be disappointed to concede such a soft goal and only take a point out of it," reflected Doolin. "The players have been training really well, and while I do think we started a bit late with pre-season, we cannot wait to get out in front of the crowd at Turner’s Cross and hopefully get our first win of the season.â€

Apart from a couple of minor knocks and bruises which are unlikely to impact on his team selection, Doolin’s only absentee through injury is midfielder Stephen O’Donnell. Having come on as a substitute against Sligo, O’Donnell had to come off with a knee injury, the extent of which is not yet known.

Commenting on the injury, Doolin said: “As yet we do not know how long Stephen will be out for, but it is a huge blow for us to lose a player of his quality so soon into the season. St. Pat’s will be difficult opponents for us, and while Galway got a great result against them, they have a new manager and new players who will be eager to bounce back from that defeat.â€
