Lots Dunne more to do for City

Cork City boss Tommy Dunne is still on the hunt for new players as he looks to boost the Rebel Army's promotion hopes.

Dunne's side play their first pre-season friendly against Cobh Ramblers at Bishopstown on Saturday.

City have now completed their first week of pre-season training, and Dunne told corkcityfc.net that he is pleased with the progress his squad has made.

“Training has gone ok. We have quite a small group which is always a worry, but we are actively looking to bring more players in, and I am confident that we will have a bigger group to work with before long," said Dunne.

"We haven’t been helped by the fact that a number of players are struggling with injury, but the main thing is to ensure they are fit for the start of the season. Kalen Spillane has been struggling with a hamstring injury, while Greg O’Halloran, Cathal Lordan and Stephen Mulcahy are all working their way back from their injuries.â€

Dunne has also confirmed that some trialists will feature in Saturday's game.

“We have been speaking to a number of players over the past few weeks, and we are now looking further afield than we had done originally. We have a Scottish centre forward on trial this week who is currently with Arbroath, and has previously had spells with Hibernian and Darlington, along with a Canadian midfielder who has been playing in Germany and also had a spell at Sheffield United," he explained.

"Both of those will feature on Saturday against Cobh, and also against Shamrock Rovers the following week.

“I’ve also been talking to a midfielder who is currently playing in the Premier Division in Finland, and am hoping to have news on that in the next couple of days. There is a Lithuanian central defender who may also be coming in on trial in the next couple of weeks.â€

The club have also confirmed admission prices for their pre-season fixtures:

The club hopes to announce at least one further pre-season fixture in the coming days.
