| City line-up Rovers double |
|
CORK CITY have lined up a pair of exciting friendly clashes with Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers at Musgrave Park.  Tommy Dunne's First Division side will meet Airtricity League champions Shamrock Rovers and FAI Ford Cup winners Sligo as part of their pre-season programme. Musgrave Park is famed as the Cork home of Munster Rugby, Musgrave Park, and is only a matter of stroll away from Turner's cross, which is unavailable for the friendly matches due to work on the playing surface. Cork City famously drew with Bayern Munich at that venue in the UEFA Cup in 1991 with Dave Barry bagging the goal. Subject to Airtricity League approval, the Hoops will visit Leeside on Friday, February 4, while Sligo will be in Cork on Friday, February 18. Both games will kick off at 7.45 pm. Cork City Football Club would like to thank Garrett Fitzgerald (CEO) and all at Munster Rugby for facilitating the two friendly fixtures. City boss Tommy Dunne told corkcityfc.net: “Turner’s Cross is unavailable as there is work being done on the pitch, and it’s great to see Munster making Musgrave Park available to us. I went along for a look at the pitch last week, and it’s in excellent condition. "I am pleased that we will have both the league and cup winners coming to Cork for pre-season; in addition to the games against Cobh Ramblers and Sporting Fingal, it gives us a good series of games for pre-season, and I hope that we will be in a position to announce at least one further friendly game in the near future.†|
